Daniel Hewitt
scooped the main award, 1st XI Players Player of the Year, at the
Kartiers FC presentation evening held recently at Meadowcourt
Greyhound Stadium, Stainforth. Matt Cooper collected the Player of
the Year award whilst Simon Brown was named Clubman of the Year.
Paul Taylor picked up the 2nd XI Players Player trophy whilst
youngster Ben Olsson earned manager Carl Marran's vote as Player of
the Year.
1st XI Manager and club chairman Ian Jennings reflected on a fine
season and remarked that 'the players were possibly on the verge of
the most exciting times of their footballing lives'. Kartiers FC
finished third, their highest ever position, in the York & District
Premier League and reached the semi-finals of all three cup
competitions that they entered. Jennings reflected ruefully at what
might have been, 'we dropped far too many points to the teams that
finished in the bottom four and that cost us in the end and we
simply didn't turn up for the semi-finals which has long been a
problem. Seven semi-finals and only one final in three seasons tells
its own tale but we are heading in the right direction and we are
now in a position to compete with the very best teams in the
District'
Asked what he hoped for the 2007-08 season Jennings said 'First
things first I have to ensure that the players that were with me
last year sign on again because I firmly believe that we can win the
league with those players. Unfortunately local football can be a
very cliquey and players can be a fickle breed and it only takes one
player to move on to upset the applecart but hopefully they will
realise what we are doing at this club and dedicate their immediate
future to Kartiers FC'. |
