Old Malton St Marys Reserves 2-4 Kartiers Reserves After arriving late due to a serious accident and bank holiday traffic, Kartiers started the game very brightly with Louis Blackwell twice going close with one of his efforts hitting the post and Andrew Woodall flashing the ball just wide of the Malton goal. It was heavy pressure all the way and the Malton goal seemed to be living a charmed life when to the dismay of Kartiers travelling army Malton broke away and scored a truly stunning goal from the left winger who dropped his shoulder and cut in from the left to fire the ball in to the top corner and leave the Kartiers keeper Ian Leonard with no chance. This lifted Old Malton and they controlled the game for the next twenty minutes stretching the Kartiers midfield of Olsson, Barrett and Rhodes. Fortunately for the visitors, Ben Olsson picked the ball up 10 yards into his own half and set of evading challenge after challenge before he found himself in the penalty box with only the keeper to beat and coolly slid the ball under him for the equalizer. Kartiers then had a penalty shout turned down when Woodall had his legs took from under him much to the disgust of the burly front man. The second goal soon followed from a scramble in the box with Olsson smashing the ball home from six yards out. The second half continued in much the same vain when chance after chance went begging the most notable was from James Barrett who gambled and intercepted a pass on the halfway line and ran the length of the Malton half and with the keeper to beat agonisingly fired wide. Teenage sensation Ben Olsson then completed his hat trick with another good finish drawing the keeper and finding the far bottom corner. With only ten minutes left Old Malton pulled one back which would have looked ok if you played Gaelic football as the Malton forward caught the ball threw it on the floor and hit it into the back of the net much to the amusement of Taylor and Hawe who couldn’t quite believe what they had seen. With only a few minutes left Leonard launched a kick high into the spring skyline and when it came down Blackwell flicked the ball with the outside of his boot to send Woodall clear on goal and he made no mistake to wrap up all 3 points. After the game manager Carl Marran spoke exclusively to www.kartiersfc.co.uk and said 'although teenager Ben Olsson will get the headlines, and rightly so, I have other youngsters in Blackwell and Jennings who also have big futures and worked tirelessly for their team.'
