Kartiers FC Reserves 4-3 Rufforth Reserves Preparation for the game didn't go very well as the kick off had to be delayed by fifteen minutes as the match referee forgot his cards and whistle! Nevertheless, Kartiers came out of the blocks at rapid speed and were two goals to the good during the first seven minutes. The first goal came from ace marksman Neil Taylor who rounded the keeper with ease and rolled the ball into the empty net for his sixth goal in only seven starts. Kartiers kept pressurising the Rufforth defence who looked out of sorts during the early exchanges and a misplaced clearance fell at the feet of Premier League star Ryan Watson who only had one intention and with a quick glance up he smashed the ball past the hapless keeper from fully 30 yards out. Rufforth responded strongly and they started to come into the game, but anything they offered was easily dealt with by the back line of Kartiers and the very impressive keeper Carl Blundell. The half time whistle came with some relief to the management team as Rufforth were starting to exert a lot of pressure and retaining the ball well. The visitors started the second half very strongly which prompted manager Carl Marran to introduce Kartiers legend Mark Lucas to try and break the play up in the centre of midfield and feed youngsters Anthony Jennings. who was working tirelessly for his team, and the very talented forward Louis Blackwell. However Rufforth gained some reward for their efforts when they pulled a goal back to make the scoreline two-one. Within minutes of the restart Kartiers regained a two goal cushion when after a scramble in the box the ball fell to the feet of young gun Louis Blackwell who made no mistake with a cool finish. Unbelievably, the game completely turned around and Rufforth hit back with two quickfire goals the second of which was clearly a cross but managed to deceive Blundell and the ball floated into the far corner. This then led to a free for all with the scores locked at three a piece as both teams threw caution to the wind in search of all three points. With just six minutes remaining the ball was at the feet of the larger than life midfielder Gareth Rhodes who rolled back the years with a stunning strike from 25yds out which sent the home fans wild with delight and was certainly a goal worthy of winning any football match. Kartiers hung on for the remaining minutes of the match for another deserved victory. After the match manager Carl Marran spoke exclusively to www.kartiersfc.co.uk and remarked 'you can all now see why i have little hair left but im over the moon with the result and credit to the lads for not giving up.'
