Pocklington 0-1 Kartiers FC Kartiers FC bounced back from the shock defeat by Heslington the previous week and gained a valuable three points with a much improved display against struggling Pocklington. Liam Olsson started his first game since the end of August in place of Michael Braithwaite whilst James Tweedie was recalled in attack with James Barrett dropping to the bench. Two minutes into the game Kartiers FC stated their intent with Glen Littlewood heading against the bar from a Josh O'Neill corner although Pocklington stung the fingers of Kartiers keeper Tom Osborne with a couple of efforts from long range during an even opening to the first half. The visitors appeared impressive in the final third of the field with Olsson in particular catching the eye with some intelligent through balls but Kartiers have appeared rather shot shy in front of goal recently and failed to capitalise on some well worked openings. The number of times Kartiers were clean through with only the keeper to beat was reaching ridiculous figures and from one such break Littlewood was brought down by the Pocklington keeper just outside the box with the resulting red card giving the Selby side a one man advantage from the fortieth minute. Pocklington worked hard to counter the one man disadvantage but Kartiers unlocked their defence with relative ease but Tweedie, Cooper and Littlewood all failed to find the net from guilt edged chances. The breakthrough finally came on 73 minutes when the impressive Cooper burst into the box only to be dragged back by a Pocklington defender and Tweedie thundered the resulting penalty home for his tenth goal of the season. Gillick and Watson both went close during the dying moments as Kartiers comfortably saw out the remainder of the game and a much happier Ian Jennings commented after the game that 'the result was far more important than the performance.' 'We needed this win after last week's defeat and at times we played some lovely stuff, especially during the second half.' There is no Xmas break for Kartiers as they travel to York St Johns College next week (23/12) and then face Wigginton Grasshoppers at home in a York League Cup Quarter Final tie (30/12). The 2nd X1 crashed out of the Barkston Ash FA Burton Cup despite taking the lead through a Martin Rowley penalty. Three second half goals condemned the reserves to a 1-3 defeat by West Yorkshire League side Old Headingley at the quarter final stage of the competition.
