Kartiers FC 1-0 Nestle Rowntree Kartiers FC ground out a narrow victory over third placed Nestle Rowntree and in doing so climbed themselves to fourth in the York & District Leeper Hare Premier Division. Leading scorer James Tweedie's unavailability meant a change in the forward line with Andrew Woodall joining Matt Cooper in attack. Ryan Watson came into a back three in place of Paul Taylor whilst there were recalls for Glenn Littlewood and Daniel Hewitt. Kartiers started very brightly in the quagmire that is now the James Street Recreation Ground with Liam Olsson in particular catching the eye with some strong challenges and clever defence splitting balls. However, the crucial final delivery was missing from much of Kartiers play and as the visitors settled into the game a more even contest developed. Ryan Watson excelled at the back but it was no different at the other end as the Rowntrees defence coped comfortably with anything that Kartiers could throw at them. Rowntree's ended the half camped in and around the Kartiers penalty area. Osborne made a smart save to keep his side on level terms and the visitors also hit the post whilst strong claims for a Rowntrees penalty were turned down by the referee. Littlewood almost broke the deadlock a minute from the interval after Olsson sent him clear down the right but his shot across the face of goal was tipped over by the Rowntrees keeper. Rowntrees broke forward immediately after the restart and should have scored but the visiting forward screwed his shot wide and within a minute Kartiers took the lead. Barrett was the provider from the left as he at last produced a quality ball into the Rowntrees penalty area where Cooper was on hand to turn the ball home at the far post. Kartiers then resorted to their usual trait of sinking deeper and deeper into their own half as they tried to absorb the Rowntrees tidal wave of pressure. Fabulous last ditch defending, brave blocks and one save out of the top draw by Osborne kept the Selby side in the lead. A hamstring injury to Olsson twenty minutes from time simply added to the pressure but the introduction of the youthful legs and exuberance of Messrs O'Neill, Gillick and new signing Blackwell enabled Kartiers to hang on for a crucial three points.
