Thorpe Utd 0-2 Kartiers FC Kartiers FC continue to hold a vice like grip on local rivals Thorpe United, completing their third victory over them in League and Cup ties this season. Having already defeated Thorpe in both the York League and York FA Senior Cup competitions, Kartiers FC travelled the short distance to Thorpe Willoughby in confident mood. Glen Littlewood was the only absentee for Kartiers who welcomed back Liam Olsson into the starting eleven after missing the previous weeks draw with Malton & Norton with Richard Taylor also enjoying a recall. Thorpe are clearly undergoing a period of transition with several players leaving the club since the last time these sides met but they enjoyed the majority of the possession during an absorbing opening twenty minutes. Thorpe had no difficulty in creating the odd opening but failed to trouble Osborne in the Kartiers goals although one tremendous save after a thunderous shot form distance brought warm applause from around the ground. At the other end a Cooper header from a Jon James cross forced a fine save from Sanderson whilst a number of pacy breaks from Tweedie and Jon James in particular caused major problems for an over-stretched Thorpe defence. Kartiers took the lead from one of several breaks they engineered midway through the first half. Olsson was the architect with a firm challenge in midfield and then a pinpoint ball which bypassed the Thorpe defence for Jon James to burst onto before sliding the ball under Sanderson for his seventh goal of an injury hit season. Kartiers could and really should have sealed the game before the interval with a host of chances going begging as there inability to play the right ball at the right time continues to haunt them. Barrett cleared off the line from a Thorpe corner as the home side fought hard to get back on level terms but that was as good as it got for Thorpe who failed to engineer a chance of note during the second half. The midfield battles continued with Watson, the former Thorpe man relishing his midfield role against his former club, and Olsson both finding themselves in the referee's book as they fought to stamp their authority on the game. It was compelling stuff, typical derby fair, but with Kartiers offering the more potent threat going forward with the only surprise being that it took until ten minutes from time before the visitors sealed the victory. The industrious Cooper fired in a shot from the edge of the area which Sanderson could only palm into the air and Woodall reacted quickest and strongest as he bundled the ball over the line with his chest with the Thorpe cries for handball being waved away by the referee.
