Nestle Rowntree 0-0 Kartiers FC Kartiers season continues to splutter along with this game having very much an end of season feel about it. The number of injuries and absentees reached ridiculous levels last weekend with Kartiers struggling to field two sides so on the face of it a point away from home should be applauded. However, an ordinary Rowntrees side were there for the taking but Kartiers lacked that vital spark in the final third of the pitch and one wonders what difference the injured James Tweedie would have made to the Kartiers cause. Wayne Brook again showed his immense potential with a spirited display in attack but the ball is just not bouncing for the young striker at the moment but he wasn't helped by some woeful passing which let the visitors down on several occasions. A Brook effort from distance and Cooper's willing running were the highlights of a dour first half illuminated only by the no nonsense defending of skipper Ryan Watson. Rowntrees were compact and organised but offered little in attack with Luke Crowther, standing in for the absent Andrew Richardson, commanding in the centre of the Kartiers defence. The best chance of the game came in the opening moments of the second half when a wonderful cross by Littlewood was headed against the bar by Brook with Josh O'Neill unable to snap up the rebound from six yards out. I'm afraid that was that for the remainder of the game with neither side having the cutting edge required to claim all three points. Manager Ian Jennings accepted his side were missing the influence of key players especially Tweedie and Matt Stephenson whilst encouraging the talents of new players. 'Wayne Brook and Josh O'Neill have been given their chance in recent weeks and will be given further opportunities for the rest of the season. Of course we are going to miss our leading goalscorer and players of the calibre of Matt Stephenson but its up to the players in the squad to step up to the mark and prove that we can progress without them.' The 2nd X1 enjoyed a great win away at Old Malton which eases their relegation fears. A stunning Ben Olsson hat-trick and a further goal from Andrew Woodall earned the second string all three points in a crucial 4-2 victory. This Saturday (14/4) the 2nd X1 visit Copmanthorpe whilst the 1st X1 travel to Malton & Norton before embarking on a series of evening fixtures starting with a home game against Thorpe United on Monday (16/4).
