Huntington 3-0 Kartiers FC Kartiers FC's title dreams were all but extinguished on Saturday with defeat at current leaders Huntington. Kartiers have hit their worst form of the season at just the wrong time and one can only wonder if losing three semi-finals has hit the Kartiers youngsters hard. Josh O'Neill made a return to 1st X1 duty along with Andrew Woodall with Jon James and Matt Cooper missing out and the visitors started brightly with the slope and strong wind in their favour. Wayne Brook appeared to be Kartiers main threat and he twice went close during an open first half and Michael Braithwaite skimmed the post with a free-kick as Huntington found the Kartiers policy of hitting them on the break too much to handle. However an error by Tom Osborne, the Kartiers keeper miscuing a back pass straight to a Huntington forward, gifted Huntington a lead at the interval that they barely deserved. The second half was just as evenly contested with Brook going close once again from distance but lapses in concentration resulted in two goals in two minutes which put the game beyond the visitors. Kartiers still battled hard and Littlewood went close after a goalmouth scramble but the points belonged to Huntington who can almost touch the League title trophy after this win. Manager Ian Jennings blamed 'individual errors' for recent defeats and added 'we are being punished at the moment for every single mistake players are making. For the second week running we have created enough chances to win many a game but not taken them and then been thoroughly punished at the other end.' He continued 'I can understand why the lads are a bit low at the moment, losing all those semi-finals was a massive blow but they will learn from the experience and come back better players for it.' The 2nd X1 fell to a crushing home defeat at home to New Earswick which keeps them in the relegation dogfight. Louis Blackwell was the only scorer in a 1-4 defeat marred by a broken leg injury to a visiting player. This Saturday (7/4) the 1st X1 travel to Nestle Rowntree whilst the 2nd X1 are also on the road with a trip to Old Malton, both games 2pm ko.
