Kartiers FC 2 - 0 York St Johns College Kartiers FC moved into fourth place in the York & District Football League Premier Division after a far from convincing 2-0 victory over York St Johns College. Top scorer James Tweedie, suspended for the win at Wigginton, was left out of the side due to an ankle injury so the same eleven which started versus Grasshoppers retained their places. With ten minutes on the clock Kartiers took the lead when Woodall's long throw evaded everyone apart from the marauding Matt Cooper who finished with great aplomb at the far post. Moments later, Matt Stephenson's shot from distance was brilliantly turned past the post by the St Johns keeper and from a spectators point of view that was that for the remainder of the game! St Johns dominated possession but found the going tough on an uneven James Street Recreation Ground and despite numerous corners the visitors failed to create any chances of note. Osborne did rush out of his goal on a couple of occasion to act as sweeper to snuff out any St Johns threat whilst Stephenson and Daniel Hewitt, for the second week running, were Kartiers stand out performers. Kartiers were content to hit the visitors on the break and substitute Simon Hewitt really should have done better from just inside the box when set up by the tireless Littlewood. Hewitt made amends in the final minute when Jon James produced a piece of wing wizardry to set him up with the simplest of chances from practically on the goal-line. Thoughts now turn to their defence of the York FA Senior Cup with a trip to Dunnington for a semi-final tie this Saturday (10/3), 2pm ko. The 2nd X1 stretched their unbeaten run to seven games since the appointment of Carl Marran as Reserve team manager. A depleted squad came away from Rufforth with a point after a 1-1 draw, Wayne Brook the goalscorer. This week the second string host Championship contenders Dunnington on the James Street Recreation Ground, 2pm ko.
