Kartiers FC 4-0 Tockwith Kartiers FC began their defence of the York FA Senior Cup with a comfortable first round victory over Premier League opposition Tockwith. In doing so, Kartiers maintained their unbeaten start to the season despite a lengthy injury and absentee list which appears to be growing by the second!! As Manager Ian Jennings explained, the knock on effect for the Reserve team has proved to be disastrous. 'For one reason or another we had 18 players unavailable today and it was the same the week before so we are very stretched at the moment. The Reserves have had to field a mixture of 15 year olds and 40 year olds to fulfil their fixtures which isn't an ideal way to start the season. We even had to drag players out of retirement to play but these things happen and we just have to get on with it and fulfil our fixtures'. As for the 1st X1, things could hardly be better. Despite missing first team regulars Matt Stephenson, Matt Cooper, Liam Olsson and Martin Rowley, Kartiers still had too much fire power for the visitors. Braithwaite, Tweedie and Littlewood all found themselves through on goal in the opening exchanges but failed to hit the target whilst at the other end half chances were created with Kartiers keeper Tom Osborne rarely troubled. Just before the interval Kartiers took the lead after an Osborne clearance bounced awkwardly on the edge of the Tockwith penalty area and Tweedie reacted quickest to divert the ball past the Tockwith keeper. Minutes after the restart Tweedie doubled the Kartiers lead, bursting clear of the Tockwith defence and despite a tight angle, lashing the ball home for his fifth goal in four games. Tockwith battled back and struck the crossbar twice from distance and Osborne was forced into making a couple of smart saves. However, Kartiers were always dangerous on the break and substitute Jon James, on the bench due to injury and only entering the fray to replace the injured Daniel Hewitt, sealed the win with two late goals. Manager Ian Jennings was pleased with the result but concerned that Hewitt may now join the queue to the treatment table!! 'Andy Woodall has been out long term as has Dale Huntington and we are not sure how Jon James will react to his time on the pitch today and Glen Littlewood also limped off so it is a worry. However, credit to the lads who are filling in so successfully'.
