Kartiers FC 3-1 Bishopthorpe Kartiers FC scraped into the last eight of the York Leeper Hare Football League Senior Cup but needed extra time to finally see of first division opponents. Manager Ian Jennings made two changes after the previous weeks league defeat by Wigginton Grasshoppers, Braithwaite and Barrett making way for David Hawe and Andrew Woodall whilst Daniel Hewitt's injury saw a place in the squad for Liam Olsson. Bishopthorpe, relegated from the Premier League last season, started brightly without really threatening the Kartiers goal whilst the Selby side showed great promise down the flanks with Glen Littlewood prominent during the early exchanges. The game was, however, crying out for a quality final ball with neither side creating a chance of note during the first half. It was all very much nip and tuck football for the large crowd who were clearly entertained by this no nonsense tie but with few goal scoring opportunities it appeared odds on for extra time as the game entered the final ten minutes. Kartiers received warning of Bishopthorpes potential threat when Osborne was forced to tip over a shot from distance but the Kartiers defence paid little heed of the warning and were statuesque when Bishopthorpe took the lead with eight minutes remaining from a rasping half volley. Kartiers reaction was swift and decisive with the impressive Jon James finally producing the quality so lacking throughout this tie with a bursting run and cross which was bundled over the line by the equally impressive Glen Littlewood. The first period of extra time was extremely cagey with neither side appearing willing to gamble for the victory but the tie was turned on its head a minute into the second period when Jon James was again the provider for Andrew Woodall to thunder the ball home from the edge of the box for his first goal of an injury plagued season. Kartiers made certain of their place in the next round when Jon James capped a fine all round display with his fifth goal of the season despite limping his way around the field for the last twenty minutes due to cramp. Manager Ian Jennings was a relieved man after the game and was particularly gushing in his appraisal of two of his players, 'I thought we were excellent going forward but appeared strangely nervous in front of goal. Thankfully Jon James and Glen Littlewood were on top of their game today and on their day there are no better attacking wide men in local football'.
