Heslington 2-0 Kartiers FC Kartiers FC suffered only their second defeat of the season after a lacklustre performance at bottom of the table Heslington. Heslington concede on average over three goals a game but never once looked like conceding against a shot shy Kartiers side who failed to net for the first time in seventeen league and cup games. The Kartiers cause was not helped by the late call off by Ryan Watson and with James Tweedie, Jon James and Andrew Woodall also unavailable it was hard to see where the goals would come from. Matt Cooper earned his first start since the end of October joining Glen Littlewood in attack with Steve Gillick dropping to the bench. Cooper worked hard in a bright opening by the visitors but the whole game appeared bereft of any real quality with Kartiers unable to string two passes together. Heslington battled hard in search of only their second league victory of the season but apart from a few long range efforts Osborne in the Kartiers goal was rarely troubled. The only bright passage of play by Kartiers midway through the first half resulted in a thunderous shot from the recalled Daniel Hewitt which flew narrowly wide. Kartiers started the second half with much more purpose with Matt Cooper engineering a good chance but shot wide, Andrew Richardson saw a header cleared off the line and Glen Littlewood headed over when it appeared easier to score. Heslington rocked the visitors on the hour mark when slack defending from a throw in saw a Heslington forward walk unchallenged through a static Kartiers back line before unleashing a howitzer from what appeared to be an impossible angle with Osborne given no chance as the ball raised the roof of the net. Kartiers simply had no reply and with twelve minutes remaining went further behind after failing to clear their lines from a free kick leaving a Heslington forward with the simplest of tap ins from six yards out. After the game Manager Ian Jennings described his sides performance as 'embarrassing' whilst praising Heslington's determined effort. 'Heslington were the better side and we have absolutely no complaints. Of course we had crucial players missing but we still fielded a strong side but the bottom line is we just didn't play well, end of story'. Kartiers will be hoping to bounce back when they visit Pocklington this Saturday (16/12) 2pm ko. The 2nd X1 put in a gutsy performance against reigning league champions Dringhouses before going down 1-0 and still seek their first league win of the season.
