END OF SEASON 06/07 Update 6/5/07: Kartiers FC ended the season in style with a 5-0 demolition of Old Malton. Jon James (2), Andrew Woodall, Adam Tessyman and Ben Olsson were the goalscorers during a very one sided game. After the game the players, partners, family and friends enjoyed a presentation evening at Meadowcourt Greyhound Stadium, Stainforth. Daniel Hewitt won the main award, 1st X1 Players Player of the Year with Matt Cooper earning Manager Ian Jennings' vote as 1st X1 Player of the Year. 2nd X1 Players Player of the Year was Paul Taylor with Ben Olsson receiving the 2nd X1 Player of the Year award from Manager Carl Marran. James Tweedie's 16 goals earned him the top goalscorer award whilst Simon Brown was announced as Clubman of the Year. Jaki Jennings received a bouquet of flowers in recognition of the often unseen but very much appreciated work she does for the club. Update 1/5/07: The local derby between Kartiers FC and Tate & Lyle was won emphatically by Kartiers FC 3-0 thanks to goals by Glen Littlewood, James Tweedie and Andrew Richardson. A goal-less first half was edged slightly by Tate & Lyle but the second half was dominated by Kartiers who had several efforts cleared off the line and a further goal chalked off for offside. Kartiers FC bring down the curtain on the 2006/07 season with a home game v Old Malton this Saturday (5/5), 2pm ko. Update 29/4/07: Kartiers FC crushed newly crowned Premier League champions Huntington 5-0 and in doing so clinched their highest ever Premier League finish. A third place finish with two games remaining was cemented thanks to a Wayne Brook hat-trick and further goals from Michael Braithwaite and Ben Olsson. Monday (30/4) sees a local derby at home to Tate & Lyle and then the 2006/07 season is brought to a close with the visit of Old Malton on Saturday (5/5). Update 26/4/07: The 1st X1's inability to despose of teams at the foot of the table has long been seen as the reason why the challenge for the Premier League title fell short this season and that inability was plain for all to see in the 0-0 draw at home to already relegated Pocklington on Wednesday (25/4). Apart from a Ben Olsson strike which was turned wide by the Pocklington keeper, an Adam Tessyman header which was well saved and claims for a penalty after Tessyman was clearly pulled back inside the Pocklington penalty area, Kartiers did not threaten enough to claim all three points. Manager Ian Jennings selected a very youthful midfield in Josh O'Neill, Michael Baithwaite and Ben Olsson and made no apologies for trying out a new 3-5-1-1 formation. He told www.kartiersfc.co.uk 'We cant finish higher than third so I decided it was a good opportunity to try new things out. We are very short in attack at the moment and Matt Cooper is running on memory because of the number of games he has played but Tweedie, Woodall and Brook all declared themselves unfit and young Tessyman is probably a season away from starting at this level so we didnt have a lot of choice to be honest'. Saturday (28/4) Kartiers FC host newly crowned Premier League Champions, Huntington, on the James Street Recreation Ground, 2pm ko. Update 24/4/07: Kartiers FC fielded three 16yr olds in the side that put an end to an under strength Dringhouses chances of retaining the Premier League title, with Huntington now crowned Champions thanks to Kartiers 4-2 victory last night (23/4). Ben Olsson, Adam Tessyman and debutante Anthony Jennings all featured in a Kartiers side themselves struggling due to no fewer than seven first choice players being unavailable. Skipper for the night Glen Littlewood opened the scoring during the first couple of minutes but Kartiers were made to pay for a number of missed chances when Dringhouses took the lead thanks to two direct free-kicks. Matt Cooper equalised just after the restart and then added a second before Andrew Woodall sealed the points. Focus now turns to the game v Pocklington on Wednesday (25/4) on the James Street Recreation Ground, 6.30pm ko. Update 22/4/07: Ten man Kartiers had to settle for a point in the game v Tockwith but it was the visitors who left the happier of the two sides as Kartiers missed a host of chances to seal all three points. Tockwith took the lead on five minutes but Kartiers hit back with a Andrew Woodall penalty and a superbly worked goal from Michael Braithwaite. Matt Cooper's dismissal two minutes after the restart gave the visitors renewed confidence but it was Kartiers who created the better chances. The home side were left to rue those missed opportunities when the visitors grabbed a last gasp equaliser. The games continue to come thick and fast as Kartiers aim for a top three finish. Dringhouses are the visitors on Monday (23/4) and then on Wednesday (25/4) Kartiers host Pocklington, both games 6.15pm ko. Saturday (28/4) sees the visit of champions elect Huntington, 2pm ko. The 2nd X1 ended their season in fine style with a 4-1 victory over Nestle Rowntree. A Louis Blackwell brace and one apiece from Anthony Jennings and Glen Littlewood saw Carl Marran's men claim all three points. The second string are currently lying in fifth place in Reserve A and all credit to Carl and the players for consolidating Kartiers place in the top flight of Reserve team football. Update 18/4/07: Championship chasing York St Johns College fielded a very strong side to thump Kartiers 2nd X1 0-5 in the game on Wednesday evening. Although Kartiers were strengthened themselves with the inclusion of a number of players with 1st X1 experience it was the visitors who offered the greater threat and despite being level at the interval, St Johns cruised to victory thanks to some clever forward play and quite simply shocking defending. Update 16/4/07: Although the local derby v Thorpe United ended goalless there was enough incident in the game to keep the large James Street crowd enthralled from start to finish. Kartiers started like an express train with Brook, Barrett and Ben Olsson (making his 1st X1 debut) at the forefront of some thrilling attacking play. However, Kartiers failed to really threaten the Thorpe goal and the visitors grew in confidence as the game progressed. Thorpe struck the crossbar with a looping header from distance whilst Brook stung the hands of the Thorpe keeper from an acute angle. The visitors were reduced to ten men right on half time for a professional foul with Matt Cooper clean through on goal. Thorpe battled superbly but were further hindered midway through the second half with a further red card but despite a Josh O'Neill effort, which appeared to cross the line before being scooped to safety, Kartiers failed to make their numerical advantage tell. Manager Ian Jennings congratulated Thorpe after the game for their "superb workrate and desire" but added "I was pleased to bits with the way my players didnt get involved with some of the stupidity that was going on around them and I made sure that they knew after the game how excited we all are at the club about the future. We have some very talented young players and we hope we will be able to retain those players and build on what we have achieved over the last couple of seasons". Update 15/4/07: The 1st X1 came back from Malton & Norton with three points after a well deserved 3-1 victory which moves them up to fourth in the table. Despite falling a goal behind Kartiers equalised on the stoke of half-time thanks to an Andrew Woodall penalty and goals in the second half from Matt Cooper and Andrew Richardson sealed the win. With renewed confidence they now face a home game v Thorpe United on Monday (16/4) in the first of a series of evening games, 6.15pm ko. The 2nd X1 earned a valuable point away at a strong Copmanthorpe side thanks to goals from Gareth Rhodes and Dave Hawe. The 2-2 draw almost seals Reserve A status but focus now turns to Wednesday (18/4) when they host York St Johns College, 6.15pm ko. Update 8/4/07: A point from a drab 0-0 draw at Nestle Rowntree was all a depleted 1st X1 had to show for their efforts which sees them now going five games without a victory. Positives from the game were yet another promising display by Wayne Brook, a thunderous performance by stand in skipper Ryan Watson and a smart cameo from 16yr old Adam Tessyman. The 2nd X1 fared much better with a 4-2 victory at Old Malton. A Ben Olsson hat-trick and one from Andrew Woodall secured the points for the second string. This Saturday (14/4) the 1st X1 travel to Malton & Norton whilst the 2nd X1 visit Copmanthorpe, both games 2pm ko Update 6/4/07: Its hands up if you are available this weekend with a combination of Easter Holidays, disgruntled girlfriends who insist on shopping trips and a drive to Malton forcing several players to make themselves unavailable. Skipper Andrew Richardson misses the 1st X1 game at Nestle Rowntree's due to attending a wedding with Ryan Watson expected to take his place in the Kartiers defence. The 2nd X1 are missing Jamie Adamson, Neil Taylor, Richard Matthews and Mark Lucas in the must win relegation battle at Old Malton. Adam Tessyman has earned a recall to the squad but it appears unlikely that either squad will have the full compliment of substitutes due to the number of absentees. Update 2/4/07: 1st X1 leading scorer James Tweedie made a surprise return from injury and featured in the 1-4 defeat for the 2nd X1 at home to New Earswick. Tweedie's comeback however was short lived and he is not likely to feature again this season, well, not on a Saturday anyway. Louis Blackwell netted his third of a promising season but the first half dismissal of Simon Hewitt was possibly the major contribution to the defeat. Unfortunately a New Earswick player suffered a broken leg during the game and all at Kartiers FC wish him a speedy recovery. The 1st X1 lost there second game on the trot for the first time this season and with it all realistic hopes of the Premier Division title. Current league leaders Huntington took advantage of individual errors to cruise home 0-3 winners although Kartiers were once again guilty of missing some glorious chances. This week (7/4) both teams hit the road, the 1st X1 visit Nestle Rowntree whilst the 2nd X1 make the long trip to Old Malton, both games 2pm ko. Update 29/3/07: Ryan Watson, James Tweedie and Matt Stephenson miss the must win game at Huntington as Kartiers FC aim to keep the season alive with a win over the current league leaders. Andrew Woodall returns to the squad after missing the cup defeat at Dringhouses replacing Simon Hewitt who drops to the 2nd X1. Joint top scorer Neil Taylor is a doubt for the 2nd X1 game at home to New Earswick although Ben Olsson makes a welcome return in what is yet again described as a 'must win' game by manager Carl Marran. Update 25/3/07: Kartiers FC's cup dreams were shattered with a 1-4 defeat at Dringhouses in the Senior League Cup. Andrew Richardson's header gave the visitors hope after falling two goals behind but it couldnt prevent a third semi-final defeat of a season which promised so much. Clearly missing the injured James Tweedie and the absent Andrew Woodall, Kartiers gave a debut to young striker Wayne Brook who appears set for a long run in the side. The 1st X1 can now concentrate on a push for the league title with Ryan Watson expected to return to 1st X1 duty after recovering from illness for the trip to current league leaders Huntington this Saturday (31/3). The 2nd X1's recent good form continued despite a scare at home to Rufforth. For the second week running they gave away a two goal lead but thankfully goals from Neil Taylor, Ryan Watson, Louis Blackwell and Gareth Rhodes secured the points in a 4-3 victory. Its hoped Ben Olsson will return to action for the home game against New Earswick this Saturday (2pm ko) after missing the last two games whilst veteran Mark Lucas will be hoping his impressive run out as substitute was enough to catch manager Carl Marran's eye. Club members are reminded that the end of season presentation eveing will be held at Meadowcourt Greyhound Stadium on Saturday 5 May. Total cost including return coach travel, entrance, programme, four course carvery and disco is £22 per person. £10 per person deposit is required asap. Update 19/3/07: A depleted 1st X1 squad came away from Old Malton with a point thanks to two Michael Braithwaite strikes in a 2-2 draw. Ryan Watson and Wayne Brook were both late withdrawals with Josh O'Neill and Paul Taylor the handy replacements. Anthony Jennings registered his claim for goal of the season during the 2nd X1's 3-2 win over Pocklington. Anthony's wonder strike added to goals from Wayne Brook and Gareth Rhodes to secure all three points. This week the 1st X1 make the trip to Dringhouses for a League Cup semi-final tie whilst the 2nd X1 host Rufforth in the league (2pm ko). Update 14/3/07: Ryan Watson has been recalled to the 1st X1 squad for the trip to Old Malton this Saturday (17/3). Ryan has been joined in the squad by young up and coming forward Wayne Brook who looks set to make his debut in attack after impressing in recent weeks for the second string. Matt Stephenson joins Dale Huntington on the long term injury list whilst James Tweedie also misses out, on Saturday anyway, due to a torn hamstring. Andrew Richardson misses out due to holiday commitments so a depleted 1st X1 face a stern test at third in the table Old Malton. The 2nd X1 welcome back skipper Dave Hawe for the home game with Pocklington (2pm ko) after missing the last two games due to holiday whilst Jamie Adamson also earns a recall after missing the defeat against Dunnington with flu. Youngster Louis Blackwell may replace Wayne Brook in attack whilst Simon Brown is recalled for yet another comeback from his niggling foot injury. Update 12/3/07: Josh O'Neill has been selected to represent the York FA in the Tony Aveyard Trophy match against Scarborough FA on Tuesday 13 March. Kick off 7:30pm, at the home of Pickering Town. Many congratulations to Josh for this much deserved call up. Update 11/3/07: Kartiers FC relinquished their grip on the York FA Senior Cup after yet another semi-final defeat, their fifth defeat in six semi-finals over the past three seasons. An extremely dubious penalty just before the interval and a wonder strike just past the hour mark sent Dunnington into this seasons prestigious final with the Kartiers camp bemoaning poor finishing once again as to the reason they reflect on what might have been. Matt Stephenson faces missing the rest of the season after suffering knee ligament damage midway through the second half to add to the Kartiers woes. The 2nd X1 lost for the first time in eight games with a 1-2 defeat at home to Dunnington. Gareth Rhodes scored his second of the season but the absence of key players Dave Hawe (holiday), Ryan Watson (flu) and Jamie Adamson (flu) saw the Reserves just fall short against championship contenders. This week the 1st X1 travel to Old Malton whilst the 2nd X1 host Pocklington (2pm ko). Update 7/3/07: Kartiers FC appear to be at full strength for the trip to Dunnington this Saturday (10/3) as they attempt to reach the York FA Senior Cup Final for the second year running. Liam Olsson's availability is a huge boost for the squad although leading scorer James Tweedie is a doubt due to the ankle injury which forced him to miss last Saturdays win over York St Johns College. Tweedie however made a miraculous recovery overnight which enabled him to participate on Sunday morning in a crunch Division Three league fixture, a late decision will be made with regard to his involvement this weekend or he may be rested again so he is fit for his Sunday morning side.... Simon Hewitt, a goalscorer in the win against St Johns, has been released into the 2nd X1 as they host second in the table Dunnington. Richard Matthews and Ben Olsson are in line for recalls after missing the draw at Rufforth whilst Ryan Watson remains with the second string due to being cup tied for the 1st X1. Both games 2pm ko. Update 3/3/07: The 1st X1 continued to keep in touch with the leaders after recording their third successive 2-0 league victory. The side currently with the best defensive record in the division beat visitors York St Johns College thanks to goals from Matt Cooper and Simon Hewitt. The 2nd X1 stretched their unbeaten run since the appointment of Carl Marran as manager to seven games with a 1-1 draw away at Rufforth. A depleted squad took the lead through Wayne Brook but had to settle for the point which edges them ever closer to Reserve A safety. This Saturday (10/3) the 1st X1 travel to Dunnington for a York FA Senior Cup semi-final whilst the 2nd X1 host Dunnington on the James Street Recreation Ground, both games 2pm ko. Update 26/2/07: Kartiers FC will be holding a meeting in the Albion Vaults public house this Thursday (1/3) at 7.30pm and all club members are urged to attend. Update 25/2/07: Kartiers FC 2nd X1 thumped local rivals Thorpe United 6-0 to stretch their unbeaten run to six games since the appointment of Carl Marran as Reserve team manager. A late pitch switch after the James Street Recreation Ground was declared unfit failed to put the second string off their stride as a Neil Taylor hat-trick, a brace from the extremely talented Ben Olsson and one from the consistent Wayne Brook sealed an emphatic victory for a side that is improving with every game. The 1st X1 bounced back from the previous disappointment of the semi-final exit with a 2-0 victory away at Wigginton Grasshoppers. Andrew Woodall and Jon James netted the goals in a convincing win. This Saturday (3/3) the 1st X1 host York St Johns College on the James Street Recreation Ground, 2pm ko, whilst the 2nd X1 travel to Rufforth. Update 23/2/07: Ryan Watson and Liam Olsson are both available for 1st X1 selection having missed last Saturday's semi-final defeat by Old Headingley. James Tweedie's suspension should see a place in the starting X1 for Andrew Woodall whilst there will be nervous looks over one or two shoulders after recent inconsistent performances. The 2nd X1 await a decision on the James Street Recreation Ground before they can concentrate on the game against Thorpe United. The pitch has suffered badly in recent weeks due to the wet weather and a decision with regard to its playability will be made on the morning of the game. Louis Blackwell, who has not featured since scoring in the 2-2 draw at Thorpe at the beginning of the month has declared himself fit for selection and hopes to join a bouyant squad who are unbeaten during the last five games. Update 18/2/07: For the third season running, Kartiers FC crashed out of the Barkston Ash FA Cup at the semi-final stage. A 0-1 defeat by West Yorkshire League Division One side Old Headingley FC condemns the 1st X1 to another season of what might have beens. The 2nd X1 secured a second league win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Huntington. Wayne Brook and Neil Taylor scored the goals that went some way to avenge the 0-8 defeat by Huntington earlier in the season. This week the 1st X1 travel to Wigginton Grasshoppers for a Premier League fixture whilst the 2nd X1 host Thorpe United at the James Street Recreation Ground, 2pm ko. Update 15/2/07: Liam Olsson (work) and Ryan Watson (cup tied) are the only absentees as the 1st X1 face Old Headingley in the Barkston Ash FA Cup semi-final, 1.30pm ko at Thorpe United. Richard Taylor, so impressive during the league win at Thorpe, looks likely to retain his place whilst Josh O'Neill has earned a recall into the squad after featuring for the 2nd X1 during recent weeks. Daniel Hewitt and Michael Braithwaite are both in contention for a place in the starting eleven as is Glen Littlewood who makes himself available again after missing the previous weeks game. The 2nd X1 travel to Huntington hoping to avenge the humiliating 0-8 drubbing they suffered earlier this season. Ryan Watson drops down to the 2nd X1 and Simon Hewitt has declared himself fit after missing the 2-2 draw with Old Malton. Manager Carl Marran is hoping to field at least one new signing although he is still without the injured pair of Louis Blackwell and Adam Tessyman with both players hoping to be fit enough to be involved again during the coming weeks. Update 11/2/07: First league goals of the season for Jon James and Andrew Woodall secured all three points in the local derby at Thorpe United. Attention for the 1st X1 now switches to the replayed Barkston Ash FA Cup Semi Final v Old Headingley this week (17/2) to be played at the home of Thorpe Utd, 1.30pm ko. Ryan Watson is cup tied and Liam Olsson is unlikely to feature due to work commitments although Glen Littlewood is available after missing the win over Thorpe. The 2nd X1's frustrations continued with yet another draw this time Old Malton fortunate to come away with a point in a 2-2 draw. Mark Lucas and Neil Taylor scored the goals that moved them a point nearer to safety whilst a tough test awaits next weekend with a trip to Huntington Rovers, 2pm ko. Update 8/2/07: Richard Taylor has received a call up to the 1st X1 squad for the short trip to Thorpe United. Glen Littlewood (work) is the only absentee from a squad which also welcomes back Liam Olsson. Josh O'Neill remains in the 2nd X1 as they host Old Malton on the James Street Recreation ground, 2pm ko. Simon Hewitt and Louis Blackwell both miss the game through injury whilst there is a return to the squad for Simon Brown who missed the Thorpe game the previous week. Neil Taylor makes his first appearance of the season due to a frozen pond whilst Daniel Fisk pushes for a place in the starting X1 after impressing recently as a substitute. Update 4/2/07: The 1st X1 came from two goals down to rescue a point against Malton & Norton. A James Tweedie penalty and Ryan Watson's first goal for the club ensured that the side remain unbeaten in 2007. The 2nd X1 were once again frustrated not to have taken all three points, this time a late equaliser denying them, in a 2-2 draw at Thorpe United. Louis Blackwell and Ben Olsson scored the goals that twice put the visitors in the lead. Youngster Blackwell unfortunately now appears likely to be out of action for 4-6 weeks after undergoing hospital treatment for an injury he received late in the game. This Saturday its the 1st X1's turn to make the short trip to Thorpe United whilst the 2nd X1 host Old Malton, both games 2pm ko. Update 1/2/07: Jon James returns to the 1st X1 squad this week (3/2) as Kartiers FC host Malton & Norton on the James Street Recreation Ground, 2pm ko. Jon proved his fitness in the 2nd X1 game against Copmanthorpe and replaces the absent Liam Olsson (work). There are no fresh injury worries for 1st X1 manager Ian Jennings as he enjoys the rarity of selecting from an almost full strength squad. Carl Marran takes the 2nd X1 to his former club Thorpe United for a crucial Reserve A fixture. With both sides struggling at the wrong end of the table, a win for either side would do wonders for more than just local pride. Jamie Adamson has declared himself fit after missing the last game through injury whilst there will be a late fitness test on Simon Brown who picked up a knock against Copmanthorpe. Update 28/1/07: It was honours even all round for Kartiers FC on Saturday with the 2nd X1 gaining a valuable point at home to Copmanthorpe whilst the 1st X1 dropped two points at Tate & Lyle. A Simon Hewitt penalty late in the game rescued a point for the Reserves who gave a debut to youngster Ben Olsson whilst Jon James came through his first 90 minutes of football since 25 November and will be hoping now for a first team recall. The 1st X1 took an early lead thanks to a James Tweedie penalty but then found themselves 1-2 at the interval. Tweedie netted his fourteenth goal of the season to secure the point that took Kartiers up to fifth in the table. This Saturday (3/2) the 1st X1 host Malton & Norton on the James Street Recreation Ground whilst the 2nd X1 make the short trip to Thorpe Willoughby to face Thorpe United, both games 2pm ko. Update 25/1/07: Glen Littlewood is a major doubt for Saturday's Premier League fixture at Tate & Lyle FC due to the ankle injury he sustained during the abandoned cup tie against Old Headingley last weekend. Liam Olsson's availability is a major boost for the side with Michael Braithwaite and Josh O'Neill also pushing for recalls. Ryan Watson returns to the 1st X1 having been cup tied the previous week with Richard Taylor dropping down to the reserves. Jon James returns to action with the 2nd X1 as they face Copmanthorpe on the James Street Recreation Ground (2pm ko). Jamie Adamson misses the game due to injury with Simon Hewitt also a doubt due to a hand injury. Daniel Fisk looks set for a starting role after impressing as a substitute against York St Johns College whilst its hoped that Ben Olsson will finally make his Kartiers debut after missing last weeks game. Update 21/1/07: Kartiers FC have it all to do again in the Barkston Ash FA Cup after the semi-final tie with Old Headingley was abandoned after 90 minutes due to the deteriorating pitch conditions. With the score at 2-2, match referee Bev Horsfield called a halt to proceedings with her main concern being potential injuries to players who were finding it hard to keep their feet in the mud soaked pitch. An own goal and a Matt Cooper strike put Kartiers FC two up within eight minutes but the scoreline flattered the Selby side who simply didnt appear to be at the races. With the gale strength wind mixed with hail and rain at their backs for the second half Old Headingley hit back to level the tie before the elements took over. The match is expected to be replayed on 17 February. In League action, the 2nd X1 came away from York St Johns College with a valuable point thanks to Simon Brown's first goal of the season. Next Saturday (27/1) its local derby action for the 1st X1 as they make the short trip to Selby College to face Tate & Lyle FC. The 2nd X1 host Copmanthorpe but there are concerns about the fitness of the James Street Recreation Ground due to damage to the playing surface by Council contractors vehicles. A decision will be made later in the week as to where the game will be played. Update 18/1/07: Sherburn White Rose is the venue for the eagerly awaited Barkston Ash FA Cup Semi Final tie this Saturday (20/1) between Kartiers FC and West Yorkshire League Division One side Old Headingley. Old Headingley thumped Thorpe United 4-0 in the quarter finals and will provide stiff opposition for Kartiers who are attempting to reach the final for the first time since 1998. Ryan Watson is cup tied and Liam Olsson is unavailable due to work commitments so their places in the squad are taken up Richard Taylor and the fit again Jon James. Ben Olsson is expected to make his debut for Kartiers FC at York St Johns College in Carl Marran's first official game in charge of the 2nd X1. Daniel Fisk, Anthony Jennings and Simon Brown have all received recalls after missing last week's defeat at Dringhouses with Jamie Adamson making a welcome return after recovering from injury. Update 17/1/07: Kartiers FC are pleased to announce that Carl Marran has joined the coaching staff at the club. Chairman Ian Jennings told www.kartiersfc.co.uk, 'Carl is a tremendous acquisition for the club. He is an extremely popular and talented coach with his knowledge of local football being second to none. Carl has been given the initial task of steering the 2nd X1 away from the foot of Reserve Section A but we have long term plans for Carl which will involve coaching combined with a scouting role with a mandate to strengthen what is becoming an extremely strong squad of players.' Update 14/1/07: The spotlight fell on the 2nd X1 with the non too surprising call off, a waterlogged pitch being the official reason, by a suspension hit Old Malton which saw Kartiers 1st X1 without a game this weekend. The 2nd X1 lead 2-1 at league leaders and reigning champions Dringhouses thanks to goals from Simon Hewitt and Gareth Rhodes but the champions hit back to win 4-2. There were plenty of positives to take from the game which saw a debut for new signing Christopher Deane. Crucial decisions went against the visitors but the gutsy determined effort can only encourage the team as they strive to climb the table. Next weekend (20/1) they travel to York St Johns College whilst the 1st X1 face the first of a trio of cup semi-finals as they face Old Headingley in the Barkston Ash FA Cup. The game, to be played at the home of Sherburn White Rose (1.15pm ko), could see the surprise return of Jon James who has defied medical science in returning sooner than expected from an ankle ligament injury which has forced him to miss the last six games. Josh O'Neill, who was a late call off due to a knee injury before the Old Malton game was postponed, is hoped to be fit enough to join the squad whilst there is also expected to be a return for Michael Braithwaite who has not featured for the 1st X1 since the game at Heslington at the beginning of December. Update 12/1/07: Weather permitting, Kartiers FC travel to fifth placed Old Malton (13/1) having to make one enforced change from the side who defeated Nestle Rowntree 1-0 last weekend. Liam Olsson's injury leaves a gap in central midfield with Josh O'Neill the likely candidate although Liam's brother Ben, recently transferred from Wigginton Grasshoppers, is included in the squad. James Tweedie returns after missing last weeks game whilst 16 year old Louis Blackwell, who made his debut last week as a second half substitute, has been released from the 1st X1 to gain more experience with the 2nd X1 as they travel to Reserve A league leaders Dringhouses. Mark Lucas returns after a one week absence and is expected to be joined by another new signing as the 2nd X1 attempt to build on the previous week's 3-1 victory at Pocklington. Update 7/1/07: The 2nd X1 secured their first league win of the campaign with a 3-1 victory at Pocklington which moved them off the foot of the table. Two goals from Simon Hewitt either side of a tremendous headed goal by Richard Taylor secured the points for the visitors. The 1st X1 meanwhile scraped a 1-0 win at home to Nestle Rowntree, with the three points gained taking them up to fourth in the table. Matt Cooper scored the all important goal two minutes after half time. On Saturday (13/1) both sides are on their travels for league games with the 1st X1 away at Old Malton whilst the 2nd X1 travel to Reserve A league leaders Dringhouses, both games 2pm ko. All players and interested parties are informed that a training session takes place this Tuesday (9/1) at 8pm prompt on the all weather surface at Abbey Leisure Centre. Update 4/1/07: Leading scorer James Tweedie misses this Saturday's (6/1) league game at home to Nestle Rowntree due to holiday commitments and his place in the squad is taken by Ryan Watson who was cup tied for the game against Wigginton Grasshoppers. Young striker Steve Gillick also makes a return to the squad and could be joined in the fourteen by an as yet unnamed new signing. Simon Brown once again names the squad for the trip to Pocklington in the continued absence of a 2nd X1 manager. Simon is now approaching full fitness and is expected to start alongside Paul Taylor and Richard Taylor who have both been released from the 1st X1. Mark Lucas is unavailable and his place is likely to be taken up by the returning Gareth Rhodes. Update 30/12/06: The 1st X1 reached their third semi-final of the season with a 4-2 victory over visitors Wigginton Grasshoppers in the York League Senior Cup. Andrew Richardson and James Barrett put Kartiers two up inside twelve minutes but Wigginton hit back to draw level before the interval. Two James Tweedie strikes late in the game secured the win for Kartiers who have now reached seven semi-finals during the last three seasons. The club however have been rocked with the news that Dale Huntington is likely to miss the rest of the season after a re-occurence of a knee injury during the recent Reserve game v Dringhouses. Dale has already missed over a year of football due to his injury and all at the club wish him a speedy recovery. Jon James will also be out longer than expected. The 1st X1's wingman, currently lying second in the goalscoring charts, has ankle ligament damage and is expected to be out until the end of February having already missed the last five games. Its back to league action this Saturday as they host Nestle Rowntree on the James Street ground, 2pm ko whilst the 2nd X1 resume league duties with a trip to fellow strugglers Pocklington. Update 24/12/06: Kartiers FC's recent inconsistent form continued with a lack lustre first half showing against York St Johns College. A Tom Osborne error led to the first goal and despite a better second half showing, Kartiers went further behind on seventy minutes. Andrew Richardson pulled one back in the final minute but it was to no avail as St Johns hung on for a 2-1 victory. Two defeats in three weeks against teams in the bottom four in the league is not what you call title challenging form and its hoped they can bounce back this Saturday when they host Wigginton Grasshoppers in the Senior League Cup, 1.30pm ko. Update 21/12/06: The Reserves have no fixture now until an away trip to Pocklington on 6 January 2007 and its hope that there will be an announcement as to a new Reserve team manager before that game. Caretaker manager Simon Brown is inching nearer to full fitness and hopes to concentrate on the playing side of things and push for a 1st X1 recall. The 1st X1 travel to York St Johns College this Saturday (23/12) and manager Ian Jennings has the luxury of almost a full strength squad to choose from. Andrew Woodall came through 90 minutes with the 2nd X1 last week and has reported no ill effects from that game. Andrew has been named in a fifteen man squad with the same fourteen that successfully came away from Pocklington last weekend with all three points retaining their places. Update 17/12/06: A James Tweedie penalty late in the second half claimed all three points for Kartiers FC at Pocklington. Matt Cooper's determined run was brought to a halt by a blatant tug of his shirt and Tweedie stepped up to score his tenth goal of the season. Kartiers now travel to York St Johns College (23/12) in the hope of more Xmas cheer. The 2nd X1 crashed out of the Burton Cup despite taking the lead through a Martin Rowley penalty. Error upon error crucified the second string during a disappointing second half which saw them concede three second half goals as Old Headingley marched into the semi-finals of the competition. The 2nd X1 have no game now until 6/1 but all players and other interested parties are reminded that training takes place this Wednesday (20/12) at Abbey Leisure Centre, 8-9pm. Update 14/12/06: Ryan Watson, James Tweedie and Liam Olsson are all included in the 1st X1 squad for this Saturdays (16/12) trip to Pocklington. Andrew Richardson is a slight doubt due to illness with the rest of the players nervously looking over their shoulders after the previous weeks shocker at Heslington. Andrew Woodall has been given the all clear by his doctor to resume playing as he tries to resurrect his season with a run out with the 2nd X1. Andrew's season has been plagued by injuries and he wasnt expected to play again until the New Year but his availability will give the Reserves a huge boost as they travel to Old Headingley for a Burton Cup tie, 1.15pm ko. Wayne Brook is still missing and he is joined on the sidelines by Jamie Adamson who was injured in the league game v Dringhouses. Martin Rowley is included in the squad for only the second time this season whilst caretaker manager Simon Brown must decide if he himself is fit enough to feature after making a surprise appearance last weekend as a second half substitute. The club are pleased to announce a training session next Wednesday (20/12) on the astro-turf at Abbey Leisure centre, 8-9pm. All club members and anyone interested in signing for the club are urged to attend. Email chairman@kartiersfc.co.uk for further details. Update 10/12/06: Heslington produced the shock of the day in inflicting on Kartiers FC only their second defeat of the season with a deserved 2-0 victory. Manager Ian Jennings described his teams performance as 'embarrassing' but refused to blame the result on the absence of several key players. Its hoped that James Tweedie and Ryan Watson (a late call off due to illness) will return to the squad for next weeks (16/12) trip to Pocklington. Liam Olsson is also available and is expected to take the place of the unavailable Gareth Rhodes. Dale Huntington's return to action after over a year out due to knee ligament damage was short lived as his injured knee gave way within minutes of entering the field as a second half substitute in the 1-0 defeat at home to Dringhouses. The 2nd X1 put in a gutsy performance against the reigning Reserve A league champions and hope to take the positives into next Saturday's Barkston Ash FA's Burton Cup Quarter Final tie at West Yorkshire League side Old Headingley. Update 7/12/06: The 1st X1 have been rocked with the news that Jon James and Andrew Woodall will both be unavailable unitl into the new year due to injury. James Tweedie also misses this weekends game at Heslington which sees a recall for Matt Cooper and Luke Crowther. Simon Hewitt looks set for a start for the 2nd X1 in the home game with Dringhouses after his transfer from Hemingbrough. Dale Huntington has given the club a great boost by declaring himself fit to feature in the reserves after injury has kept him off the pitch for over a year. Simon Brown is also close to a recall after surgery on broken and dislocated toes. Anthony Jennings made an impressive debut for the York FA U16s in their 3-0 victory over Queensland Academy from Australia (7/12). Despite the strong wind and driving rain, a large crowd enjoyed an entertaining game in which Anthony did more than enough to hopefully earn another run out for the representative side. Update 3/12/06: Two goals in the first half from Michael Braithwaite and Andrew Richardson were enough to see off visitors Dunnington during a tetchy league clash on the bowling green. Jon James missed the game due to an ankle injury and is a doubt for next Saturday's (9/12) league game at Heslington. Leading scorer James Tweedie also misses the game due to 'family commitments'...It's hoped that Luke Crowther will be available after his recent bout of illness whilst Matt Cooper may be called up to replace Tweedie in attack. Wayne Brook missed the 2nd X1's 3-1 defeat at Dunnington, Wayne underwent an operation on Friday evening and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery. Rory Murphy celebrated his first start for the club by putting the visitors ahead but Kartiers were punished for some glaring errors which allowed Dunnington to steal the points. Things get tougher for the second string as next Saturday they host league champions Dringhouses, 2pm ko. Update 30/11/06: Ryan Watson looks set to make his Kartiers FC debut this weekend against Dunnington after his transfer from Thorpe United. Ryan approached the club at the end of last week and Manager Ian Jennings was said to be 'delighted' with his latest aquisition. Jennings told www.kartiersfc.co.uk 'Ryan is someone I have admired for some time but I was very surprised when he became available, needless to say though I snapped his hand off when he asked if I was interested in signing him!' Daniel Hewitt misses the Dunnington game due to an injured toe whilst Luke Crowther is also causing some concern due to a bout of flu so Gareth Rhodes has been drafted into the squad after missing last week's cup win over Thorpe. Andrew Woodall also misses the Dunnington game due to the head injury he sustained against Aberford, Andrew is expected to see a specialist next week and the club wishes him a speedy and successful recovery. The 2nd X1 have been rocked by the news that club veteran and former 1st X1 manager Simon Winstanley has requested a transfer to Thorpe United. Simon was approached by a representative of Thorpe United last weekend and Simon made his request known to the club in midweek. Caretaker manager Simon Brown welcomes back Wayne Brook, who missed the Temple Newsam Cup win over Garforth WMC, for the trip to unbeaten Dunnington whilst Martin Rowley, a surprise inclusion against Garforth, has once again made himself unavailable. Anthony Jennings, who has been so impressive in his first season at senior level, has been selected to represent the York FA U16's against a touring side from Australia. Queensland Academy are the opposition for the game at the home of Selby Town FC on Thursday 7 December, 7pm ko. Congratulations to Anthony on his much deserved call up. Update 26/11/06: York FA Senior Cup holders Kartiers FC marched into the semi-finals of this season's competition after a gutsy 1-0 victory over local rivals Thorpe United. Leading scorer James Tweedie netted the all important goal on twenty minutes, a cracking volley from the edge of the area. The game was switched to Thorpe after an early morning pitch inspection deemed the James Street Recreation Ground unplayable after the recent heavy rain. Daniel Hewitt is a doubt for next weekends league game at home to Dunnington due to a suspected broken toe whilst Andrew Woodall should be available after missing the Thorpe game due to concussion. Glen Littlewood, who has missed the last two games, comes into contention but the club may also have the services of a new signing, more news on the transfer later in the week. If the 1st X1 are at full strength it can only be good news for 2nd X1 caretaker manager Simon Brown as he takes his side to Dunnington for a Reserve A league game. Update 23/11/06: Problems mount for manager Ian Jennings as he prepares his side for this Saturday's (25/11) York FA Senior Cup Quarter Final tie at home to Thorpe United. Glen Littlewood is again unavailable due to work commitments as is Gareth Rhodes. Andrew Woodall is still recovering from the head injury he sustained last week and is highly unlikely to feature. James Barrett, an unused substitute in last weeks cup victory over Aberford Albion, has declared himself fit after recovering from a sprained ankle. Matt Cooper, who has featured in the last two reserve fixtures since returning from a short spell in Spain, has been drafted into the squad but a decision on the final fourteen has yet to be made. With the 2nd X1 having no game this weekend there could be a call up for Paul Taylor, so impressive in the league game at Copmanthorpe, whilst Wayne Brook, Jamie Adamson and youngsters Anthony Jennings and Adam Tessyman have all caught the eye in recent weeks. However, its expected that the same X1 that started against Aberford will start against Thorpe. Update 19/11/06: Kartiers FC reached the semi-finals of the Barkston Ash FA Challenge Cup with a penalty shoot out victory over cup holders Aberford Albion. Daniel Hewitt and Jon James netted the all important goals in the 2-2 draw before Tom Osborne took centre stage with two crucial penalty saves. Andrew Woodall and James Barrett made surprising appearances on the substitutes bench despite recent injury scares but Woodall suffered concussion after a clash of heads which will make him doubtful for this Saturday's (25/11) York FA Senior Cup Quarter Final tie at home against Thorpe United, 1.30pm ko. The 2nd X1 earned themselves a much needed morale boosting victory in the Burton Cup, Adam Tessyamn and Jamie Adamason were the marksman in a comforable 2-0 victory. There is once again no game for the Reserves this week with a league game away at Dunnington awaiting them on 2/12. Update 16/11/06: Andrew Woodall definately misses this weekends Barkston Ash FA Cup Quarter Final tie at home to cup holders Aberford Albion. Andrew suffered a knee injury against Tockwith and broke down in the warm up before last week's league game against Copmanthorpe. Last season's 1st X1 Player of the Year, James Barrett, who also missed last weeks game at Copmanthorpe due to injury, is classed as 'extremely doubtful'. Glen Littlewood, last week's two goal hero, is also unavailable leaving manager Ian Jennings with major selection headaches of the unwelcome variety. Josh O'Neill appears likely to replace Littlewood whilst a late decision will be made on Barrett's inclusion with Matt Cooper and Adam Tessyman both standing by. Caretaker manager Simon Brown has yet to finalise his squad as he awaits news on the fitness of Lee Harper (back) as well as the availability of several players for the 2nd X1's Burton Cup tie against Garforth WMC. Wayne Brook and Paul Grundy (work) are both definately unavailable but the release from the 1st X1 of experienced defender Paul Taylor will certainly boost the side as they attempt to bounce back from the previous week's crushing league defeat. Club stalwart Mark Lucas makes a welcome return to the squad after injury but it may be a last minute decision before the final fourteen are named. SOCCERETTE!! New feature!!! Anyone interested in becoming a Kartiers FC Soccerette should contact the club via website@kartiersfc.co.uk. It is hoped in the short term to make this a monthly feature depending on the suitability and number of 'Kartiersettes'. No involvement with the club is necessary but a nice smile and delightful personality is a must...handicraft expertise and home economics ability would be a bonus. Update 12/11/06: The 1st X1 battled the conditions and third placed Copmanthorpe before registering a very impressive 3-0 victory. A Glen Littlewood brace and Steve Gillick's first goal for the club stole the headlines but Daniel Hewitt earned man of the match honours after a dazzling display at the heart of the Kartiers midfield. Andrew Woodall broke down in the warm up and is a major doubt for this weekends (18/11) Barkston Ash FA Cup Quarter Final clash with cup holders Aberford Albion (1.30pm ko, James Street). The 2nd X1 however have major problems if their 8-0 thumping by Huntington is anything to go by. A missed Wayne Brook penalty with the score at 0-1 was perhaps the turning point of the game but such a heavy defeat is inexcusable and caretaker manager Simon Brown has a massive task in hand as he tries to find the right squad to turn the season around. A home fixture this weekend v Garforth WMC in the Barkston Ash FA Burton Cup is next on the agenda for the Reserves (1.30pm ko, venue to be advised). Update 9/11/06: Richard Taylor is the only absentee this week (holiday) as the 1st X1 visit Copmanthorpe. Richard's brother, Paul, has been drafted into the squad whilst Andrew Woodall has recovered from the knee injury sustained during last week's 1-1 draw at Tockwith. Simon Brown selects his first ever 2nd X1 side for the league clash at home to Huntington but is without the services of Kev Oliver (work) whilst there is a doubt over Daniel Fisk (injury). Keeper Ian Leonard may make his first start of the season after declaring himself fit but Simon may keep faith with Lee Harper, so impressive in the 2-1 defeat at league leaders Nestle Rowntree. Jamie Adamson and Wayne Brook are also available giving Simon a very welcome selection headache. Update 5/11/06: There were fireworks in the Premier Division clash at Tockwith as Kartiers FC's Michael Braithwaite scored a stunning equalizer but was later sent off in a 1-1 draw with Kartiers missing several opportunites to win the game. An injury to Andrew Woodall is causing some concern to the Kartiers management as will be the ban that Braithwaite may receive. The 2nd X1 can gain much heart from their performance at Reserve A league leaders Nestle Rowntree. Adam Tessyman gave Kartiers the lead but Rowntrees hit back to claim all three points with two goals in quick succession midway through the second half. Next weekend the 1st X1 travel to Copmanthorpe whilst the 2nd X1 host Huntington. Update 3/11/06: Simon Brown, currently sidelined with injury, has been appointed 2nd X1 caretaker manager. Simon, part of last seasons York FA Senior Cup winning squad, has agreed to help run the second string whilst injury prevents him from playing. Kartiers FC have delayed making a permanent appointment until a suitable candidate is identified. Simon's first task is to take the second string to league leaders Nestle Rowntree. Wayne Brook's groin injury and Jamie Adamson's unavailabilty due to holiday commitments are the only absentees with Dave Hawe a welcome addition to the squad after his release from the 1st X1. Adam Tessyman and Liam Campbell also find themselves in the squad which has a very youthful look about it. The 1st X1, meanwhile, visit the home of Tockwith FC for a league game with Josh O'Neill named in the squad in place of Dave Hawe. Leading scorer James Tweedie is expected to regain his place in the starting line up after coming off the bench to net the winner in the previous week's cup win at Bishopthorpe. Update 30/10/06: The 1st X1 reached their third cup quarter final of the season after coming from behind to defeat first division Bishopthorpe in the York FA Senior Cup. James Barrett netted the equalizer and James Tweedie came off the bench to grab the winner twelve minutes from time. Josh O'Neill earned man-of-the-match honours in the Barkston Ash FA U17's representative game v Leeds FA but ended up on the losing side in a 3-1 defeat. Josh will be hoping, despite his two game absence, that he will be recalled to the 1st X1 squad when they return to League action on Saturday (4/11) with a trip to Tockwith. The 2nd X1 meanwhile can look forward to the rare prospect of having a game of football in consecutive weeks!! They travel to Reserve A leaders Nestle Rowntree this week then face a home fixture against Huntington (11/11). The club have received interest from two individuals with regard to the vacant Reserve team manager's role. Its expected that the matter will be discussed at a hastily arranged committee later this week. Update 26/10/06: Kartiers FC have been rocked by the decision of David Lyon to resign as Kartiers FC Reserve team manager after only two games. David contacted club chairman Ian Jennings via the rather unfortunate method of 'text'. David apparently made this decision after discussions with a representative of another local club. Club Chairman Ian Jennings released this statement to www.kartiersfc.co.uk : 'We are extremely disappointed with David's decision to resign as manager of Kartiers FC Reserves and even more so with his request to be transferred to Thorpe United. The priority now is to install a new manager as soon as possible, retain the services of the players David registered with Kartiers FC and hopefully persuade those that he had left out of the squad that they still have a future with the club.' Jennings added 'David did not give any reason as to his decision and I would rather keep my views on how this situation arose to myself, all I will say is that I am extremely angry and very disappointed.' Perhaps fortunately for Kartiers FC, the 2nd X1 have no game this weekend so hopefully someone will be in place before the next league game away at Nestle Rowntree on 4 November. The 1st X1 meanwhile travel to Bishopthorpe this Saturday (28/10) in the York FA Senior Cup. Its expected that the squad will be the same as the one that won at Swillington the previous week although James Tweedie may come in for Adam Tessyman. However, Tweedie's decision to play last Sunday after assuring the club he will rest because of his long term groin injury could have aggravated the problem in more ways than one. Further update 26/10/06: Josh O'Neill, if recovered from injury, will not be available for selection this week as he has been selected to represent the Barkston Ash FA Under 17's against Leeds FA at Adel KO 11.30am. Josh has also received York FA representative honours whilst appearing for Kartiers FC and we congratulate Josh on his selection. Michael Braithwaite has also featured at Barkston Ash FA, York FA and North Riding County FA level since making his debut for Kartiers FC. Overdue congratulations to the pair of them. Update 22/10/06: Kartiers FC reached the last eight of the Barkston Ash Cup after a comfortable 4-0 victory over Swillington Saints. Michael Braithwaite opened the scoring and Andrew Woodall netted a fine hat trick to ensure the 1st X1's smooth passage into the next round. The 2nd X1 meanwhile were beaten by lower league opposition as they crashed out of the Reserve League Cup. Reserve B side Haxby were three goals up inside ten minutes and despite Anthony Jennings scoring before half time the York side cruised to a 4-1 victory. The 2nd X1, once again, have no game this coming weekend (28/10) whilst the 1st X1 travel to Bishopthorpe for a York FA Senior Cup tie. Update 20/10/06: Steve Gillick and Adam Tessyman have been drafted into the 1st X1 squad for the trip to Swillington in place of Josh O'Neill and James 'Tiny' Tweedie. O'Neill has not recovered from the rib injury he sustained last week although its thankfully just a case of heavy bruising, whilst Tweedie is rested after complaining about a groin problem for several weeks. 1st X1 Manager Ian Jennings exclusively told www.kartiersfc.co.uk 'Tiny mentioned his problem to me after last weeks game and to be honest he has clearly struggled over the last few weeks. So, we had a chat and decided between us to rest him this weekend and review the situation next week.' Steve Gillick is therefore expected to make his debut up front alongside Andy Woodall with Tessyman providing forward cover from the bench. Daniel Hewitt returns to the squad in place of Liam Olsson (work). The 2nd X1, hopefully, travel to Haxby in the Reserve League Cup with Paul Grundy, Simon Winstanley and Gareth Rhodes all included in the squad. Jack Hawe is expected to make his debut in what will be only the fourth game of a stop start season for Kartiers second string. Update 16/10/06: The 1st X1 came through a tough League Cup tie at home to Bishopthorpe, coming from behind to win in extra time thanks to goals from Glen Littlewood, Andy Woodall and Jon James. However, further bad news on the injury front with James Tweedie complaining of a groin problem which may see him rested for a few weeks whilst Josh O'Neill left the field with suspected fractured ribs. Resources could be stretched for this week's trip to Swillington Saints in the Barkston Ash Cup. The 2nd X1 once again had a blank weekend due to the inability of the opposition to organise the proverbial booze up in a brewery. No goal nets, no corner flags AND no referee saw the game postponed with the league to decide upon any punishment to the York side. At least the boys put the kit on and warmed up...This week its hoped Dave Lyon's side get to take the field as they visit Haxby in the reserve League Cup. Both games 2pm ko. Update 13/10/06: The 2nd X1 are expected to give league debuts to Jack Hawe and Steve Gillick away at York St Johns College but await a late decision on Paul Grundy who may have work commitments.Matt Cooper is not available as he has decided to remain in Spain rather than travel back early to cold, damp Selby. Daniel Hewitt, surprisingly dropped last week, has declared himself unfit for this Saturday's league cup tie at home v Bishopthorpe and his place in the squad is taken up by the returning Liam Olsson. It remains to be seen if manager Ian Jennings wields the axe after last week's fist defeat of the season. Update 8/10/06: Kartiers 1st X1 lost their unbeaten record with defeat at the hands of Wigginton Grasshoppers. Despite taking the lead through James Tweedie, Kartiers failed to convert a string of chances and were made to pay with Wigginton equalizing on the stroke of half-time and then hitting the winner five minutes from time. Josh O'Neill limped off towards the end but its hoped he will be fit for Saturday's league cup tie at home to Bishopthorpe. Liam Ollson is once again available as is Steve Gillick who has returned from holiday. Matt Cooper is also available after cutting short his planned three month tour of Spain. The strength of the 1st X1 squad should mean that the 2nd X1 travel to York St Johns College for their second league game of the season with an abundance of players to choose from. Update 5/10/06: Kartiers 1st X1 face Wigginton Grasshoppers at the home of Selby Town FC this Saturday, weather permitting. If, as previously, the rain prevents the fixture being played on the Town's ground the game will be switched to the bowling green, 2pm ko. The club have taken delivery of two portable dugouts, one emblazoned with the club name and the other with the name of club sponsor Yorkshire Bank. Kartiers FC are extremely grateful to Yorkshire Bank Plc for their generous sponsorship. Unfortunately, despite contacting several clubs, no fixture has been arranged for the 2nd X1 this weekend. All club members are urged to support the 1st X1 as they bid to preserve their unbeaten record. There are no fresh injury worries at present with the same squad that beat Thorpe United last weekend expected to take the field against Wigginton. Update 2/10/06: A great weekend for the club with both sides reaching the next round of there respective league cup competitions. The 1st X1 found themselves two goals down at local rivals Thorpe United in the Senior League Cup but hit back to equalise before the end of normal time through James Barrett and James Tweedie. Thorpe regained the lead at the start of extra time but Kartiers hit back immediately through Jon James. Tom Osborne pulled off a string of fine saves and was the hero in the penalty shoot out saving Thorpe's sixth penalty allowing Kartiers skipper Andy Richardson to send his side through 4-3 on penalties. This was the second cup tie this season that Kartiers have won on penalties and on both occasions Richardson has scored the winning penalty! David Lyon enjoyed a dream start to his managerial career with a 3-0 victory over visitors Tockwith in the Reserve League Cup. David gave debuts to five new players and the bold move paid off with a comfortable victory and a tremendous morale boost after the previous weeks debacle. Fifteen year old Anthony Jennings, son of 1st X1 manager Ian Jennings, opened the scoring and further goals from Kevin Oliver and Wayne Brook sealed the tie. This weekend sees the 1st X1 return to league action with a home game v Wigginton Grasshoppers. This game may be played at Selby Town FC as the club are still waiting on delivery of dugouts as per league rule. The 2nd X1 have no league fixture this week but it is hoped that a friendly can be arranged. Please check back for further details during the week. Update 25/9/06: One could hardly have had more contrasting fortunes for the 1st and 2nd X1's over the weekend. The 1st X1 began their defence of the York FA Senior Cup with a thumping 4-0 victory over Tockwith, a brace apiece for James Tweedie and Jon James. The scoreline probably flattered Kartiers who had the woodwork (twice) to thank for the clean sheet but at the same time the quality of their own finishing was frightening. Unfortunately the 2nd X1 suffered at the hands of senior outfit Hemingbrough who gained revenge for a pre-season friendly defeat with a stunning 7-0 victory in the Junior version of the Cup. The 2nd X1 were not helped by the number of players who made themselves unavailable, no fewer than 18 registered players!! Taken into account those that are injured or on holiday, it still is an extraordinary amount of players who seemingly have better things to do on a Saturday afternoon. This coming weekend (30/9) sees the 1st X1 travel the short distance to Thorpe for a Senior League Cup tie with hopefully Matt Stephenson and Liam Olsson making themselves available. There are injury concerns over Daniel Hewitt and Glen Littlewood, who both limped off against Tockwith whilst Andrew Woodall (making a very brief appearence in injury time against Tockwith, his first run out since 26/8) may be given a run out with the Reserves. The appointment of Dave Lyon as Reserve team manager is hoped to trigger more commitment from those that are signed on and it will be interesting to see who is in the squad for Saturdays Reserve League Cup tie at home to Tockwith Reserves, 2pm ko. The coming weekend sees cup action for both teams. The 1st X1 host Tockwith as they start their defence of the York FA Senior Cup whilst the 2nd X1 travel the short distance to Hemingbrough in the junior version of the competition. The 1st X1 injury and absentee crisis continues with Matt Cooper and Steve Gillick joining Andrew Woodall (injury), Matt Stephenson (holiday) and Liam Olsson (work) on the unavailable list. Gareth Rhodes return from holiday boosts the 2nd X1 squad but could find himself with the 1st team squad as could the returning Jamie Adamson. Nicky Moore, Jim Holroyd, Matt Culkin and Shaun Sumner all come into contention for the Reserves game at Hemingbrough although a late decision will be made on Ian Leonard's inclusion after a hamstring injury with Lee Harper on standby to continue in goal. The 2nd X1 came away from New Earsick with a point and were fairly satisfied considering the number of players who made themselves unavailable. A mixture of youth and experience took the field for the first league game of the season and a stunning Simon Winstanley free kick gave the visitors the lead. New Earswick claimed a point with an equaliser late in the second half. Kartiers FC progressed to the next round of the Barkston Ash Cup after a penalty shoot out win over Tadcaster Magnet Sports. Kartiers took the lead on the half hour mark when Andy Richardson swept home a Luke Crowther cross but two goals in a minute just before half time gave Tadcaster the lead. Liam Olsson's unexpected return from work in time to be named as substitute gave the side the boost they needed as he entered the fray on the hour mark. But it took a wonder goal by Jon James to bring the sides level, a stunning run from the half way line and crisp finish, and Richardson and Tweedie really should have won the game as Kartiers dominated the closing stages. Extra time brought no further goals although Tadcaster almost stole the tie with a last gasp chance which was blazed wide. Penalties decided the tie with Luke Crowther, manager Ian Jennings' man of the match, missing the third Kartiers penalty to give Tadcaster the advantage. However, Tadcaster blazed their final two penalties wide and it was left to skipper Andy Richardson to clinch the tie with the final spot kick. A farcical postponement of today's Premier League game v Tockwith due to the oppositions inability to raise a team saw the Kartiers first string facing their second weekend on the trot without a game. Manager Ian Jennings hijacked the 2nd X1's friendly v White Horse and most of the 1st X1 enjoyed a 45 minute run out in the first half. Luke Crowther was the pick of the players with an assured display at the back and even found time to venture forward and net his first goals for the club during a one sided first half which saw Kartiers take a five goal lead. Glen Littlewood opened the scoring and a double for Matt Cooper added to Crowther's wonderful strikes. The second half saw Kartiers make eight changes but the second string still came out on top with 15 year old Adam Tessyman adding a sixth to cap a fine days work. Unfortunately, new signing Steve Gillick limped off during the first half after a quite awful challenge and is a doubt for next Saturday's Barkston Ash Cup tie v Tadcaster Magnets. Matt Cooper is Spain bound and plays his last game next Saturday before a three month spell in warmer climates. Andrew Woodall is at least two weeks away from a return to action and Simon Brown is out for at least a month after breaking bones in his foot. This Saturday (9/9) Kartiers 1st X1 host newly promoted Tockwith, hopefully at Selby Town FC whilst the 2nd X1 play their final pre season friendly on the James Street Recreation Ground v White Horse (Church Fenton). Liam Olsson has now moved down to Plymouth with work and is unlikely to feature much for the rest of the season. Injury doubts remain with Matt Stephenson, Glen Littlewood and Andrew Woodall whilst James Tweedie misses his last game before he returns from holiday. Jamie Adamson is also unavailable due to a family wedding. The 2nd X1 will be more streamlined this week as its hoped to determine who will feature in the first league game of the season away at New Earswick (16/9). No fewer than 21 players represented the 2nd X1 in a friendly v Melbourne. Eight debutantes also featured and did well enough in the first half, holding their Division Three opponents to a 0-0 scoreline at half time. The strong wind, ten changes and possible lack of experience of playing together didn't help during a poor second half which saw Melbourne score three times. How many of the new players will hold down a place in the squad remains to be seen but the game proved a useful exercise for all concerned. The 2nd X1 host Melbourne in a friendly and at the time of writing look likely to see debuts for no less than seven new players. Selby Town and the weather conspired to prevent the game v Huntington going ahead. The 1st X1 were due to host second in the table Huntington at Selby Town FC but the heavy rain saw the Town groundsman express his concern about the possible damage to the pitch so the game was switched to the James Street Recreation Ground. Unfortunately, standing water in the goalmouths gave the referee no option but to call the game off. New signing Steve Gillick (striker) looks likely to make his debut v Huntington whilst there will be late fitness checks with Liam Olsson and Matt Cooper. Long serving defender Richard Taylor returns to the 1st team squad after missing three of the opening four games of the season. Highly rated defender Jamie Adamson may miss out with flu, so there could be a first ever start at this level for last seasons 2nd X1 Players Player of the Year Josh O'Neill. Josh, who at only 17, continues the policy of promoting the talents of younger players with Ian Jennings philosophy of 'if you are good enough, you are old enough' counting him in good stead in previous years. The last midweek league game for this time of the year took place at Dunnington with Kartiers going a point clear at the top of the league thanks to a 2-1 victory. Matt Cooper played through the pain barrier and was joined up front by midfield wide man Jon James. Matt Stephenson declared himself fit and was given a place on the bench whilst there was a welcome return to action for midfield enforcer Liam Olsson. Jon James created the first goal with a dazzling run and cross which forced a Dunnington defender to divert the ball into his own net midway through the first half and Matt Cooper doubled the lead on the hour mark after more fine work from his strike partner Jon James. Dunnington pulled a goal back ten minutes from time from a set piece but Kartiers defended superbly and held out for a fine win. But it was at some cost with Matt Stephenson barely lasting five minutes before a reoccurrence of his back injury which rules him out of the next game. Glen Littlewood, although completing the game v Dunnington complained of a swollen knee which also rules him out of this weekends game (2/9) and Liam Olsson suffered a suspected broken nose and eye injury which makes him a doubt also. Danny Hewitt also has problems, an eight stitch gash in his hand, so the squad will be severely tested for the visit of second in the table Huntington (at Selby Town FC). Kartiers third league game of the campaign saw them host newly promoted Heslington at Selby Town FC and were again sadly off the pace and found themselves two goals down after twenty five minutes. They rallied to draw level before the break and went two goals up shortly after the interval and really could have won more comfortably than the 4-2 final scoreline suggests. Unfortunately Matt Stephenson missed the game due to a back injury and Matt Cooper left the field at half time also with a back injury. Gareth Rhodes 1st X1 debut will be one he will remember due to the fact he ended up in hospital with eight stitches inserted into an awful head wound after a nasty clash of heads. James Tweedie now also misses three games due to holiday commitments whilst strike partner Andrew Woodall is expected to miss a similar number of games with suspected ligament damage. There was a welcome return to the touchline for Manager Ian Jennings after what would appear at this stage to be a successful operation. However, Ian was not well enough to resume first team duties and is not expected to until at least 9/9 so John Osborne and Simon Winstanley continued to deputise in his absence. The midweek trip to Dringhouses saw a much improved performance and major disappointment that Kartiers only came away with a point from a thrilling 3-3 draw. Despite a wonderful last kick of the game free kick equaliser from Michael Braithwaite, Kartiers were arguably the better team and bossed the game for long periods. A 2nd X1 hosted Cawood in a friendly the evening after the Dringhouses league game and a rather disjointed and poorly organised side came away with a 4-4 draw. The game highlighted the fact that the side is desperate for someone to take over the managerial reins, vacant since Simon O'Neill stepped down at the end of last season. The plus point was in another 15 year old debutante, Sean Lucas, son of club stalwart Mark Lucas. However, all other news paled into insignificance with the news that Manager Ian Jennings was rushed into hospital the day before the first league game of the season due to the discovery of a brain tumour after an MRI scan. Ian had complained about blurred vision in his right eye and the discoery of a tumour was truly shocking news. But, as Ian pointed out, the show must go on and Kartiers FC hosted Copmanthorpe in the first league game of the 2006/07 season. Luke Crowther made his league debut whilst the absence of defenders Paul Taylor, Richard Taylor, Martin Rowley and long term injury victim Dale Huntington saw a recall to first team duty for David Hawe. A sluggish Kartiers scraped a 3-2 win thanks to a stunning winner from James Tweedie. The major bad news from the Wetherby tie was an hamstring injury six minutes into the game suffered by Liam Olsson and the remarkable decision by defender Martin Rowley to take a break from football all together. Martin apparently 'wasn't enjoying his football' despite the fact that the season hadn't even started and his last competitive game was a York FA Senior Cup Final victory over Huntington!! We all hope Martin returns to the club sooner rather than later. Later in the week a 2nd X1 played a very strong Hemingbrough side in a pre season friendly. The comfortable 3-0 victory for the second string belied the fact that the team had been thrown together at the last minute and featured two 15 year olds making their senior debuts (Adam Tessyman and Anthony Jennings). Also making their Kartiers debuts were Jim Holroyd and Gareth Rhodes whilst Lee Clayton made a welcome return to the club after two seasons. It is hoped that Lee will make the move more permanent after the end of the cricket season. The pre season cup competition, Temple Newsam Cup, saw a first round tie at Selby Town. A large crowd witnessed a gutsy performance from Kartiers FC against a very good, youthful Selby side. Glen Littlewood netted the winner ten minutes into the second half. The next round saw Kartiers host Wetherby and a breathtaking display of attacking football saw the Selby side sail into a two goal half time lead. A host of other chances went begging and the game should have been done and dusted but defensive frailties (so apparent during the friendlies) resurfaced once again and Wetherby hit back to take the tie with three second half goals. Although disappointed with the performance in the second half, Manager Ian Jennings was not too concerned about missing out on a semi-final v Thorpe Utd. The semi final took place two days after the first league game of the season and two days before a trip to defending league champions Dringhouses!! New signings Luke Crowther (defender) and the returning Liam Olsson (midfield) featured in those games as did all of last seasons 1st X1 squad. Pre season training went well as did the three 1st X1 pre season friendlies with a stack of goals scored but rather worryingly, a lot of goals conceded. START OF SEASON 06/07
